United Way’s Week of Action helps Guilford food bank

GUILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Volunteers headed to the Food Bank of Guilford on Tuesday to take part in the United Way Week of Caring.
One in eight Connecticut residents face food insecurity, something that Dennis Valesquez with the United Way of Greater New Haven called “an alarming stat.”
The Food Bank of Guilford distributes distributes food every month to those in need. People can sign up through Guilford Social Services and can use the food bank twice a month.
About 70 people are participating in projects throughout the week. For some, it’s a family affair.
“I really want the kids to know and understand that they are people in our community who have all kinds of needs and that there’re always that we can contribute to making our community a better place,” said Dorothy Tolchin, a volunteer.
