The Food Bank of Siouxland hosts its 2nd Annual Food Festival

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – The Food Bank of Siouxland hosted its 2nd annual Siouxland Food Festival at the Seaboard Triumph Foods Expo Center Saturday afternoon.

There were nine different venders specializing in Korean, Filipino, and American foods. It also featured family-friendly activities such as inflatable cornhole, ice cream treats, picnic games and raffle prizes.

The executive director of the Food Bank, Valerie Petersen, said this food festival is twice the size of last years. That’s because they’ve done away with the “Empty bowls fundraiser,” and replaced it with an event that’s more accessible to the public.

“We work with some many different organizations, pantries and agencies, and just thought that our old event didn’t give the entire community an opportunity to participate,” said Petersen. “So, we wanted to do something that could really bring the community together.”

Petersen said the event was created in hopes of bringing the community together through different foods from across Siouxland. The owner of Pub 52, Justin Truhe, located in Sergent Bluff said this gives them the opportunity to serve their food to people outside of their community, and potentially grow their business.

“It’s been awesome, all the venders are awesome, to go around to see what they’re serving as well,” said Truhe. “Really good thing that people can go around and get four to five different things they might not try, might take them a couple months to get to these places so, just kind of cool, it’s for a good cause, and it lets everyone try some different foods.”

Some of the funds from this event will go to the venders that participated, and the rest will make its way to the Food Bank to provide well rounded offerings at their pantries.
