Mira Kapoor: Fashion, to me, is a blend of utility and a bit of self-expression, mostly influenced by my mood. When rushed, I choose simple, comfortable, and laid-back outfits. Other times, I enjoy thoughtfully planning and accessorising. I believe what you wear reflects your emotional state. I prefer to keep my style minimal and easygoing. It’s pretty consistent – easy, chill, everyday girl style.

Q2: While constantly in the public eye, how do you maintain your sense of self and authenticity in the face of external expectations? And how do you navigate balancing self-care and your family’s well-being?

Mira Kapoor: I come from a close-knit family of five, with two older sisters and a loving extended family. They’ve always been my safe space, offering solace and nurturing. After the marriage, this sense of security expanded to include my husband and in-laws, who have also showered me with love and affection, making it easy for me to drown a lot of noise. In the public eye, where criticism can be overwhelming, I find strength and support from my family. They boost my confidence during challenging times. I emulate this approach with my children, striving to provide them with the same unwavering love and values my parents instilled in me. I want them to know they are loved unconditionally and don’t need to conform to others’ expectations. My parents’ strong values form the foundation for my children’s sense of self-worth.

Q3: Talking about self-care, many people still associate it with skincare and beauty. What does self-care mean to you? How do you prioritise it daily?

Mira Kapoor: I believe self-care, as a concept, is both extraordinary and self-explanatory. To me, it is about feeling beautiful, accepting yourself, and then starting the journey of being the best version of yourself. Beauty, wellness, and health are all about ensuring this. Physical fitness from the gym, mental health from mindfulness, and confidence from beauty, all make me feel beautiful from the inside out. Self-care means listening to your skin, tuning into yourself, integrating beauty, and using self-awareness as your confidence.

Q4: As you recently launched a skincare brand, how do you balance work and family commitments to ensure you give your best to both? Share your journey from being a mother of two to now being an entrepreneur.

Mira Kapoor: My entrepreneurial journey began with balancing homemaking and motherhood, before evolving into a new chapter. While my children and family come first, I’ve recently co-founded Akind with Tira Beauty. This journey has been an extraordinary experience, as it’s my third child, requiring my full attention and dedication, alongside a talented team.

Q5: Speaking of skin health, it’s not just about using products but also about diet and exercise. What are your thoughts on this? Are there any specific foods and nutrients you incorporate into your daily diet to maintain healthy and glowing skin?

Mira Kapoor: I agree; eating well is crucial. I follow a vegetarian diet rich in vegetables and plant-based protein. I think it is a holistic approach; apart from eating well, exercise, good sleep, and plenty of water are essential. But all of that could also go to waste if you’re not taking care of your skin every single day. I ensure consistency in my skincare routine, addressing various skin concerns.

Q6: How do you manage your energy levels throughout the day, and what are some of the key practices or habits that help you stay energised and focused?

Mira Kapoor: I’m not somebody who likes to follow trends. I’ve developed a routine that works for me over the past eight or nine years. I begin my day by having soaked raisins and almonds in water, followed by a spoonful of ghee and coconut water. I enjoy ghar ka khana (home-cooked meals) and indulge occasionally. I think it’s the vegetarian diet that helps me get away with it.

Q7: As someone who stays true to herself and doesn’t follow trends, who are the people or influences that have shaped your perspective on overall well-being, self-care, and health?

Mira Kapoor: I’ve been fortunate to have my ideas shaped before the age of social media, drawing inspiration from my family, especially my mom and sisters, who instilled strong values in me. While social media offers inspiration from admired individuals, my primary inspiration for wellness, beauty, and personal conduct comes from my mom. However, I enjoy following certain people whose content resonates with me. Vasudha Rai, a close friend and experienced beauty editor, is one such person, and we regularly share new practices. I also appreciate Sangeeta Khanna, who focuses on integrative nutrition and promotes local foods and practices.

Q8: Lastly, what is that one quote that drives your daily actions and motivates you to perform at your best?

Mira Kapoor: It’s straightforward: “Keep it real.” It has been my Instagram bio since the start and has been a personal motto for me.
