Russell Crowe Shares Gladiator 2 Concerns
We’re getting closer and closer to the release of Gladiator 2, and Russell Crowe is once again sharing his mixed feelings about the project.
As I’m sure you know, Ridley Scott is currently working on the sequel to his widely beloved movie, Gladiator, which came out in May 2000 and went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars in 2001.
Fans have been particularly intrigued to hear the thoughts of Russell, who famously starred as Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius in the first movie.
It’s worth noting that the chances of Russell appearing in the sequel are pretty low, based on the fact that his character died at the end of the original film. And recently, the New Zealand-born actor shared his opinion on the sequel as its release draws closer.
Russell famously earned an Oscar for his portrayal of Maximus, and while talking to Kyle, he looked back at how the film changed his life.
This isn’t the first time Russell has confessed to feeling “slightly jealous” when asked about the Gladiator sequel, previously saying that the story “holds a special place” in his heart.
While Russell seemingly loved how Gladiator boosted his status, his successor, Paul, has shared quite an opposing view on the prospect of the sequel skyrocketing his notoriety. In an interview with the Times this year, the 28-year-old said he’ll become “profoundly depressed” if Gladiator 2 makes him more famous than he already is.
Paul has previously stated that he’s yet to talk with Russell about the sequel, telling Esquire last year: “I don’t know what we would talk about. Like, I’d love to hear his stories from filming, but the character is, like, totally separate.”
