Rite Aid to close 27 stores amid federal bankruptcy case

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Rite Aid plans to close 27 stores in Ohio and Michigan, according to court documents filed this week in the company’s federal bankruptcy case.

“I was really upset because I come here quite often. It’s so convenient for me, and I’m just upset about it,” Carol Deluca said. Deluca gets her prescriptions from the Rite Aid on Navarre Avenue in Oregon, which is one of the stores listed in the filing.

Documents say five other local stores, in addition to the Oregon store, will close.

  • 530 West Market Street, Tiffin
  • 722-740 South Main Street, Bowling Green
  • 2434 West Laskey Road, Toledo
  • 3362 Navarre Avenue, Oregon
  • 1816 East Second Street, Defiance

But those may not be the only Rite Aids closing in Northwest Ohio. 13 Action News called a couple of other Rite Aids, which weren’t on the list of those set to close; workers at those stores also told us they believe their stores will also be closing. One employee went on to say that all prescriptions would be turned over to Walgreens.

However, none of this information is confirmed. Rite Aid has not issued a statement regarding the bankruptcy filing and did not respond to our request for comment.

There is no official word on when stores will close or what will happen to prescriptions when they do.

“It’s kind of disappointing to see all the Rite Aids at that going down because it’s important to the community to get medications and stuff,” Logan Barshel, a Rite Aid customer, said.
