Local food trucks team up to give back to those in need

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The Bishop Dudley Hospitality House and Fat Kid Fillys sponsored an event on Wednesday that fed homeless residents in the Sioux Falls community.

Organizer Cody Sauers said the goal was to spread joy in the community while giving back to those in need.

“I think the biggest thing I was trying to give them is just a day or even just an hour or so to feel like everyone else, to feel like they can get some food from a food truck and not consistently have to just go in and whatever is served. They get some choices. It’s fun. It’s kind of this fair type image for them to do,” said Cody.

When people like Sauers come together, they are likely to change someone’s life and leave a lasting impression on them. They are also able to give them something they need.

“Right now, we’re all at kind of a point in life where we can’t take care of ourselves fully to our full extent. So, we depend on help and help like this for people to be able to feed us, house us, clothe us, give us things we need,” said attendee Rodney Wecker.

Those in need of the food weren’t the only ones impacted by the event. Several food truck owners were excited to share their skills and specialties.

“It’s good to give. It’s good to be a part of something good. You put out good in the world, it comes back to you, you know? This is, yeah, I think this is all a good thing here,” said Laurie Kuyper.

People in the community were also excited after learning about the event.

“Today is a special day, and I really appreciate this day. I was shocked. I was like ‘Really?’” said attendee Tony Tate.

The crowd enjoyed a variety of different foods, from tasty nachos to juicy burgers and ice cream.

Candy and others plan to continue this event.
