Lifestyle Disorders: Early Onset of Lifestyle Disorders in Men | Nagpur News
“The alarming rise of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) among men is fuelled by a combination of factors,” said Dr Amar Amale, a cardiologist. “A sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet, and chronic stress significantly contribute to CVDs risk,” he said.
Sexologist Dr Sanjay Deshpande highlighted another major concern: Erectile dysfunction (ED).Millions of men in India suffer from ED but remain silent due to social stigma. “ED can be a crucial early indicator of more serious health problems, including CVDs. Men must seek medical evaluation for ED, not only to address the dysfunction but also to identify and manage potential underlying health issues,” he said.
Dr Manish Thakre, president of the Psychiatric Society of Nagpur, pointed out that compared to women, men are less likely to seek help for mental health concerns. “This results in a high number of undiagnosed and untreated conditions like depression and anxiety,” he said.
Diabetologist Dr Sunil Gupta shared another worrying trend: Men are more susceptible to developing type 2 diabetes, even at a lower weight compared to women. “Recent studies show a higher prevalence of type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes in men compared to women. Men are also diagnosed with the condition at a younger age and with a lower body mass index,” he said.
Clinical dietician Maalvika Fulwani, said, “A balanced diet rich in nutrients, physical activity and stress management reduce chronic disease risk and promote overall well-being in men.”
