Beach cleanup

The Redwood Parks Conservancy is gearing up for its annual “Fifth of July Beach Cleanup” in Crescent City, and volunteers are needed to take part in this event.

The event, scheduled for July 5 from 10 a.m. to noon, will target three main beach areas: South Beach, Crescent Beach and Pebble Beach. Last year, volunteers at the cleanup collected 3,290 pounds of trash and toxic firework debris.

Volunteers will meet at 110 Anchor Way, Crescent City (next to Schmidt’s House of Jambalaya) at 10 a.m. on July 5. All necessary cleanup supplies will be provided, including trash bags, pickers, dumpsters and sharps containers. Additionally, snacks and refreshments will be available for volunteers. For safety reasons, volunteers are advised to wear closed-toe shoes and pants.

Those unable to attend the cleanup event in person can still contribute by making a donation to Redwood Parks Conservancy. Donations will help support the purchase of essential supplies and personnel needed to make the cleanup a success. To sign up as a volunteer, visit bit.ly/rpc-volunteer-cleanup. The Redwood Parks Conservancy’s mission is to foster understanding, enjoyment and stewardship by providing support to partner agencies — the National Park Service, California State Parks, Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Forest Service — that are entrusted with the care of Northern California’s public lands.
