Food Network posts ‘Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives’ segment featuring La Texanita in Santa Rosa

The Food Network took viewers back in time last week when it reposted a more-than-decade-old video showing longtime Sonoma County resident Guy Fieri and his family visiting their favorite Mexican restaurant in Santa Rosa.

The video, a segment of Fieri’s popular “Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives” show, features the celebrity chef and his son, Hunter, rolling up in Fieri’s convertible to check out La Texanita on Sebastopol Road.

“Between the story, the people and the great food, La Texanita has become one of our favorites,” Fieri said in the video.

The segment first aired all the way back in August 2009 as part of the show’s “Global Grub” episode, which explains why 27-year-old Hunter Fieri looks 12 years old.

Fieri is shown talking to owner Alma Mendez, who demonstrates creating her handmade tortillas from scratch and makes carne asada tacos, which Fieri calls “so simple, but so good.”

“I’m telling you something, there’s just nothing that can beat that handmade tortilla,” Fieri said in the segment.

Mendez shares how the restaurant started as a taco truck before she opened the brick-and-mortar location.

She then shows Fieri how she makes the restaurant’s pozole.

“This is about as real deal as you can get,” Fieri said of the Mexican stew.

Several patrons also share their love for the restaurant in the segment, including Guy’s parents.

The newly reposted video was viewed more than 75,000 times.

“Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives” airs Fridays at 9 p.m. on Food Network and streams on Max.
