Erectile Dysfunction: Anxiety & lifestyle causing erectile dysfunction in young men: Doctors | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: City-based andrologists and doctors said there is a growing trend of erectile dysfunction among youth and men in age group of 20-35 and approximately, 40% among them are likely to develop heart-related issues.
Doctors concede increased anxiety and lifestyle issues contribute to this phenomenon among men. Experts said erectile dysfunction can develop after the age of 40-50.

However, if it develops at a younger age of 25-30 years, it is critical to rule out heart-related problems.
“Men between 20 and 35 who exhibit symptoms such as erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation or lack of interest in sexual activities may have heart difficulties (like blockages in the blood vessels or other issues). Erectile dysfunction and heart problems are not interlinked, but they can co-exist in the same individual, particularly when dysfunction occurs as a result of lifestyle conditions such as a sedentary lifestyle or obesity, these problems are usually treatable with medication,” Dr Bhavatej Enganti, consultant andrologist at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology, said.
“Erectile dysfunction can also happen due to performance anxieties and stress-related problems,” he said.
To be more specific, this problem has increased by 30-40 per cent among younger men. Four of the ten younger men with erectile dysfunction problems have heart difficulties, and one among these four has more complicated issues, but there is no need to panic. All of this can be resolved, Dr Bhavatej said.
This tendency is consistent with the findings of an AIIMS Delhi research on sexual problems among men. “In this study, it was found that 80 per cent of the men have some or other such issues. We can also predict that other health issues such as heart diseases will be found among them. However, unlike previous generations, younger generations are not hesitant to seek advice on these things,” Dr Kiran Madala, national coordinator of All India Federation of Government (Teaching) Doctors’ Association, said.
Dr Gautami Nagabhairava, psychiatrist at Kamineni Hospitals, said: “Younger men have erectile dysfunction, which can also be caused by depression and mental health issues. It does not have to be physical probl-em. When people are depressed, their libido and energy levels drop, and such young men are not very active.” She said treating depression can resolve issues. “The younger generation is exposed to sexually explicit content online at a young age. As a result, they have abnormal expectations and may fail,” Dr Gauthami said.
