Food Truck Festival draws crowd despite heat

EVANSVILLE, In (WEHT) – Good food, family, friends and memories.

Hosted by Evansville Events, the annual Food Truck Festival draws a large crowd every year, and despite the heat, this year was no different.

Dozens of families and food connoisseurs returned to Bosse Field to see what food trucks had to offer.

Rolling Thunder Indiana Chapter 6 helped with admissions and opened the gates at 1 p.m. and says the line did not stop.

Some people went for their first time like William Payne. He moved to Evansville from Paducah and says he was excited to see what the event was all about.

“Really cool to try a lot of different foods. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Acropolis food truck, so I been wanting to check it out,” he said.

Over 30 food trucks attended this year’s festival. Each one offering a variety of salty, sweet or savory foods to fit everyone’s craving.

Zachariah O’Neil works in the Juicy Butts Barbecue Food Truck. He says this year they took extra steps to stay cool.

“We have two air conditioners. We went and bought an air conditioner from Walmart yesterday to put in the window for an extra backup, but other than that, a lot of water and Gatorade,” he said.

Organizers took extra steps to keep attendees safe because of the heat by adding more fans and water stations.

Despite the heat, attendees say they had a good time chowing down and celebrating fathers.

A portion of the proceeds go back to helping Rolling Thunder Indiana Chapter 6 to thank them for their help in making sure the festival ran smoothly.
