Four soft drink and soda-related products distributed to New York food establishments have been recalled for containing undeclared preservatives.
In an enforcement notice announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Charles Boggini Company, which sells beverage flavors and concentrates and water-compatible CBD nanoemulsions, voluntarily recalled three types of lemonade drinks and a flavoring base.
The Connecticut-based company has declined to comment on the recall further, according to USA TODAY. Here’s what to know about the recall.
Which products have been recalled?
The products, which are typically sold in one- and five-gallon quantities, are sold in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Arizona, Michigan, Illinois and California. These are the recalled products and lot/unit numbers:
- Pink Lemonade, lot/unit number 1-017, for undeclared FD&C Red No. 40
- Yellow Lemonade, lot/unit number 1-065, for undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5
- Yellow Lemonade X drinks, lot/unit number 1-015, for undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5
- Cola flavoring base, lot/unit numbers 9-330, 9-348, 1-013, 1-036, 1-097, for undeclared sulfites
FD&C Red No. 40 is a food, drug and cosmetic red dye linked to colorectal cancer, FD&C Yellow No. 5 is known to give some people allergic reactions and sulfites can cause respiratory problems.

Companies are required to disclose dyes, preservatives and other chemicals used in manufacturing. A failure to do so can result in a recall or fines.
